Currently, Mumbi is developing a new stage production, which will tour Holland and Belgium in 2006. She recently finished filming opposite Iris Berben in Die Patriarchin, a German TV Drama released in Europe in early 2005. She plays “Grace Makanga” in John le Carré’s The Constant Gardener, (Director: Fernando Meirelles). which will appear in movie theatres late next year.
Mumbi worked as Editorial Producer of Heart and Soul, a soap opera that was broadcast on radio and TV in 13 African countries in 2003. She also produced and performed her first play The Voice of a Dream, at the SANDD Festival of Storytelling and Dance in 2002. The Festival hosted storytelling groups from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
In 2003 Mumbi produced Kenya’s first V-Day Worldwide Campaign which uses the play The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to end violence against women and girls.
Married, with two children, Mumbi was Eve’s Woman of the Year for Music and the Arts for 2003 and is theis the current President of Women Playwrights International, a global body which organises tri-annual conferences to for women playwrights. Back to Maisha Advisors.
